These diseases result from IgE-dependent release of mediators from sensitized basophils and mast cells upon contact with an offending antigen (allergen). Associated disorders include anaphylaxis (
Chap. 28: Anaphylaxis), allergic rhinitis, urticaria, asthma, and eczematous (atopic) dermatitis.
