Endemic Treponematoses

Etiology and Epidemiology

The endemic treponematoses-yaws, endemic syphilis, and pinta-are nonvenereal chronic childhood diseases caused by organisms closely related to the agent of syphilis, Treponema pallidum. Early skin lesions are infectious; disease is transmitted by direct contact.
